There is a great history behind the words commitment, honor, and courage when talking about becoming an American Sailor or a U.S Navy. Its tradition has spanned for more than two centuries.

Any civilian who wished to become a sailor should report to the Recruit Training Command or RTC in Great Lakes, Illinois. Take note, RTC is a big campus but you will never experience being alone. You will meet other recruits with the same goal as you are. The training and skills that you will obtain from the boot camp will be your stepping stone for your future success whether wearing a uniform or not.

A Boot Camp is eight weeks of physical and mental training. As many would expect, it would be very demanding and rigorous. It is hard work because recruits will gain everything that is well worth it in being a navy man. From the Boot Camp, the recruits will emerge as Navy sailors with high physical condition. Every recruit has the chance of accomplishing what are needed to become a true sailor ready for any adventure.

Week 1 is considered as the processing week. Once you have arrived at the RTC, you will be issued with Navy clothing. Right folding and storing your belongings and making your bunk are properly taught. You will also receive complete medical and dental exams and even a haircut if it is needed.

As the week passes, you will spend your time in conditioning, marching, drilling, swimming, and most significantly attending your Navy classes. You are required to push yourself beyond mental and physical limits to achieve higher levels of performance which you thought you cannot do. Then honor, courage, and commitment will become the words that you will be required to live with. These are the Navy Core Values which will become your ideals as well as your shipmates’.

Week 2 focuses on building your confidence. You will take a confidence course designed for simulating shipboard situations during emergency cases. This will taught you how to be sharp and cooperative with other shipmates.

Week 3 will be your reality check. You will learn about ship nomenclature, first aid procedures, semaphore or signaling using flags, and other real-world lessons to survive the Navy world. Week 5 will focus totally on you. It will answer what, where, and how questions to assess the things that you have undergone already and seeing what the future brings.

Week 6 is all about firefighting and shipboard damage control. You will learn about extinguishing fires and escaping a compartment filled with smokes.

Week 7 will be your ultimate test. You are provided with exercises of twelve different scenarios incorporated with what you have been previously learned. You, together with your team are graded according to your ability on executing the tasks being required. Successful completion will enable you to obtain the ball cap as a full-fledged Navy Sailor.

Week 8 will be your graduation. Be proud that you have successfully passed the Boot camp and achieved your dream to become a member of the U.S. Navy with honor, courage, and commitment.

Darwin continued to study earthworms, their habits and their benefits to man for over forty years. He even went so far as to label these crawlers as one of the most important creatures on earth.

Worm farmers experience fluctuations in production and revenue depending on market requirements and demand. While commercial worm farmers still exist and function efficiently, many individuals have begun to establish their own methods of farming worms. This has been made easier through readily available worm farming supplies and equipment to encourage a more natural way of producing well fertilized soil and for composting waste.

In today’s world, it seems that almost any topic is open for debate. While I was gathering facts for this article, I was quite surprised to find some of the issues I thought were settled are actually still being openly discussed.

Organic vegetable gardening has many advantages than conventional farming methods. This article will discuss that in the hopes that more people will realize that it has a lot of health benefits.

First, organic vegetable gardening does not use any fertilizers or pesticides. The ingredients used in making these products are harmful to humans and though they have been washed, people are still at risk of absorbing them when they are eaten.

A study shows that organically grown vegetables have 50% more nutrients and vitamins. This means that you are lesser at risk of developing certain health problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer.

Also, organically grown vegetables taste much better because it is not tainted with antibiotics. Think of it like powdered juice versus the kind that is naturally squeezed. The first one is mixed with a lot of artificial ingredients while the other is straight from the source.

It should be pointed out that fertilizers and pesticides makes the soil unfertile. If this happens, we don’t get the right number of vitamins and nutrients from the vegetables we consume.

If this is true, why did people use fertilizers and chemicals? Because back then, the use of such methods was thought to help increase food production but studies later on have showed there was a flaw which is why this is being corrected.

You can easily spot organically grown vegetables and other food items in the grocery as they are placed in a separate area. You will notice that compared to other products, they cost a bit more but don’t you think it is better to buy such products that are healthier?

Organic farming is not only practiced for vegetables. This is also being done for fruits and animal livestock as well as research has showed that milk from organic cows contain more anti-oxidants, CLA, Omega 3 and vitamins compared to those that use hormones, antibiotics and the remains of other animals.

Given that, people should pressure their government representatives and even those who have not yet shifted towards organic farming to do so immediately.

The government for its part has done their part by offering incentives and subsidies to farmers in exchange for no longer using genetic engineering, irradiation and sewage sludge.

This changes how the game is played because the goal here is sustainable development and the only way to make sure the soil used is always fertile is through crop rotation. This means planting one variant this season and changing it with another in the next and so forth.

It isn’t hard to implement. Farmers just need the willpower to open their minds and make the change.

You can also get into organic vegetable farming yourself by doing this in your own backyard. You just need to buy the supplies, prepare the land, protect it from insects and other threats so you will be able to harvest it in the next few weeks.

Whenever you buy organically grown vegetables, don’t forget to wash them before it is cooked. Although it is chemical free, you don’t know what kind of compost was used to help it grow.

You hit two birds with one stone when farmers and you decide to go into organic vegetable farming. It keeps both the people and the environment healthy.
